Don't Change - 2010

The images form reference of coming to terms with
aspects of treatment and recovery from cancer.

Charly, who was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma,
had a tumor "about the size of a cantaloupe" that
developed in both the bone and the soft tissue of
her hip. "VIDE Chemotherapy" treatment was followed by
surgery removing 90%. Due to the remaining cancerous
cells in the soft tissue, post operative radiotherapy
and chemotherapy commenced. The treatment caused ovarian
failure. An operation on the bladder was also required
as it was damaged during the radiotherapy.

Charly's silver-plated titanium hip is the first of it's
kind to be used in the uk. 9 pints of blood were transfused.

----

King's Crutch: subverting classic regal portraiture, with
crutch in place of sword. (see King George IV)

Ophelia: The wig in-hand, sacrifice, life and death.

Cocktail: of drugs and supplements, ongoing medications.

Bump: typical pose for pregnancy photography. A fantasy,
no more than a dream due to dysfunctional ovaries.

Beatles: X-Ray, Scanning, looking through, reflections of
the body. Concentrating on the heart and hip, observation.

Crepe Mme: Dress made of blood-red bandages, alluding to
blood transfusions and the irony of sexualised imagery and
illness, lack of appetite with reference to food.
